Definition – What does App mean?
App or Application is the same thing as a computer program. While an app may refer to a program for any hardware, it is most often used to describe programs for mobile devices including smartphones and tablets. The term app was promoted by Apple when the company developed the App Store in 2008. As the iPhone device and App Store grew in popularity, the term app became the standard way to refer to a mobile app. Programs for Android and Windows Phone are also known as apps as well.
Glossary Web explains App
Just like apps for traditional computers, mobile applications can only be obtained by downloading them from an online store called the app store. Today most of the devices automatically install the application when downloaded that creates a seamless installation process for the user. Most of the application is free to download and use, while others must be purchased. However, mobile apps are much cheaper than computer applications.
The main reason mobile apps are cheaper than desktop applications is that they are less advanced and take fewer resources to create. The application offers limited capabilities of the mobile operating system and therefore may not offer as much functionality as the desktop program. Most apps are created to be fast, small, and easy-to-use. Unlike computer applications, apps are intended to be used on-the-go and are created to advantage of a small touchscreen interface.
