What is Node?

Definition – What does Node mean?

Any device that is linked to the network is called a node. Each device on the network has a network address that uniquely identifies each device that helps keep track of where data is being moved to and from on the network. The concept of the nodes work on numerous level, but the main view defines nodes as the major center through which Internet traffic is routed. The term node can also be referred to a leaf that is a folder on your hard disk.

The idea of the node was promoted with the adoption of the packet –switching theory and the concept of distributed networks. In context, the nodes were gateways that cloud store, receive and information along different routes through the distributed network that means that the loss of any one node wouldn’t significantly hurt the network. One of the most common forms of the node is a host computer.
