What is Real Number?

Definition – What does Real Number mean?

A real number is any number (positive or negative) available within the mathematical range of numbers. It includes whole numbers, integers, rational and irrational numbers as well as virtually any kind of number that is not an imaginary number that cannot be computed or process logically. Rational numbers may be explained as a fraction, and irrational numbers may be explained by an infinite decimal representation. The real numbers that contain decimal points are also known as floating point numbers since the decimal floats between the digits.

Real numbers are similar to computing system because computer calculations involve both floating point and integer calculations. Generally, integer calculations are simpler than floating point calculations, the computer’s processor may use the different kinds of logic for performing different kinds of integer operations than it does for floating point operations. The floating point operations are performed by a separate part of the central processing units known as the floating point unit. While the computer’s system can process all kinds of real numbers, irrational is generally estimated. These aids save extra processing that would be required to calculate numbers with larger, but unnecessary accuracy.
