The software is a general term that defines computer programs. Software programs, applications, scripts, and instruction sets all fall under the category of software or the computer. Therefore, installing new software or applications on your computer is synonymous with installing a new program on your computer. The software can be hard to describe because it is virtual or not physical like computer hardware.

Therefore, when you buy software, it often comes on a disc that is a physical means of storing the software.
The software is often divided into three different categories such as System Software, Application software and Programming Software. Each software has its own functions and objectives such as system software serves as the vase of application software, the application is intended to perform certain tasks, and programming software is a complete set of tools to aid developer or programmers to write programs.
